The Sabal palmetto is originally from the south-east of the United States and Cuba and is one of the largest in the Sabal species, in swampy areas with the right temperatures such as Florida, it grows over 20m high. The Sabal has large hard palmate blue-green leaves and is a very slow grower. The Sabal grows best in a chalky sandy soil, in full sun / partial shade. The Sabal does very well in the open ground, it is a slow grower when young but that increases quickly when it gets older.
